English Springer Spaniel - Ginger - Medium - Senior - Female
Say hello to Ginger, a sweet senior with a lot to offer in her remaining years. Ginger was brought into ESRA's program from a shelter, so not much is known about her history. From her lack of grooming it was obvious that Ginger had suffered from neglect, but fortunately she never lacked food. She weighed sixty-two pounds when she came into rescue. She is now down to fifty-three pounds, with a goal weight of forty to forty-five. Ginger is blind, but she has good hearing. She does well in known surroundings. She is crate trained. She walks well, albeit slowly, on the leash, and she goes up and down stairs easily. As the weight has come off, she has become somewhat spry and sassy, and she does not have a problem letting her foster family know what she wants! When Ginger had her first vet appointment, the vet noted high liver enzymes in her blood work, possibly due to Cushing's disease. A follow-up urine test was not able to confirm or rule out Cushing's. Additional testing and subsequent treatment plans were evaluated. We made the decision to retest when she reaches her goal weight. In this way we can determine whether obesity was the cause of some of the symptoms. Happily, some of the symptoms have now abated. Ginger deserves a stable, loving home in which to enjoy her senior years. If you think you are the Forever Family for her, please contact us.
